ELPA held a symposium at the EASL congress Copenhagen on 25th April 2009. The subject was “Best practice in raising awareness in migrant populations”. Hepatitis patients are especially vulnerable to health and social consequences if they are members of a migrant population: Cultural and language barriers make it difficult to communicate with their doctors, and few people are even aware of their infection. In many cultures, it is also taboo to talk about those diseases.
What can your country do to reach and help patients who belong to a migrant community, without stigmatizing them? ELPA invited speakers from various countries and institutions to present examples of best practice.
