On 27 January, ELPA President Nadine Piorkowsky met with Members of the European Parliament to brief them on ELPA’s activities within the “European Partnership for Action Against Cancer”. The overall aim of this Partnership, brought to life by the European Commission as a multi-stakeholder initiative, is to support Member States and other stakeholders in their efforts to reduce the burden of cancer by sharing best practices and expertise in cancer prevention and control. During her visit to Brussels, Mrs. Piorkowsky requested MEPs’ support in highlighting the growing burden of liver cancer, its link with viral hepatitis, and the need for a coordinated EU response to promote the targeted case-finding of hepatitis carriers amongst risk groups, to EU and national policymakers.
